U.S. Navy Capt. Janice G. Smith is from Morris Hall, St. Catherine and credits the wisdom of her Grandmother Miss Iris with keeping their family together and her mother who left for America to create opportunities for the family, for her determination to succeed. Capt. Smith was the second black woman and the first Jamaican-American woman to command a U.S. Naval Destroyer.

I was privileged to work with the welcoming team when Commander visited her Alma Mata and it was awesome. It was one of the proudest moment in the history if Bog Walk High. Commander, you've made pour school, community and nation proud. Congratulations on your new appointment. Continue to shine.
